SK Office Furniture Fabric Supplier nominate for Banksia Award

INSTYLE are finalists in the 2006 Banksia Awards : Sustainability Category

INSTYLE is proud to be selected as a finalist for the prestigious Banksia Awards 2006 in the Sustainability Category, awarded for outstanding achievements in minimising the environmental footprint of a company.

This award recognises the considerable efforts we have made to reduce our overall ecological footprint from the design and development of the innovative sustainable textile collection, LIFE (Low Impact For the Environment) Textiles® to achieving an excellent rating for the office's environmental performance.

Some of the company’s environmental achievements include:
• in 2003 our office environmental performance increased from an average to an excellent rating (as measured by a University of New South Wales Green Office Rating Questionnaire). This rating has been maintained and means our office has minimal impact on the environment compared with the average office.

• reduction in paper usage by 11% (31 reams) since 2002. INSTYLE’s paper usage (8.55 reams per person per year) is significantly lower than the average of 20 reams per person per year.

• achieved 7.5% (11 365 kwh) and 18% savings in energy and water (respectively) usage compared to the previous financial year.

• implementation of reuse and recycling systems in 2003 for paper/cardboard, plastic packaging, food & drink containers, fabric waste, toner cartridges and pallets reducing waste going to landfill by approximately 80%. The resources saved from INSTYLE’s recycling efforts from 1 July 2005 to 31 March 2006 are 40.8 trees, 8 barrels of oil, 12884 kwh of electricity, 12.8 cubic metres of landfill and 99865.6 litres of water.

• redesign of plastic packaging to use less material (thickness reduced by over 15%), contain recycled content (85% post-industrial recycled content) and enable further recycling. This is defined as ‘eco packaging’ by ecospecifier (Australian database of eco preferred materials).
